Judge Me If You Dare…Grow With Me If You Care!
Finding a niche is a valuable thing in business, for without one what are you “efficiently” doing every day? Nothing effective, that’s for sure.
I began chapter 6 “Finding a Niche” and fully understand the importance of doing your homework in business. Understanding your competition is one of the most valuable things you can do; but I needed to look just a bit deeper…I’m not looking to start a company I’m actually seeking an opportunity to ignite a spark in those around me. Understanding my personal niche is of the utmost importance to me, I read not only for business reasons, I also read for my leadership journey.
Therefore, as a leader finding a niche can be a bit more troublesome, especially if you don’t expect to win. You must EXPECT to win, not only to find your niche but to truly be seen as a leader. Who in their right mind would really want to follow someone who EXPECTS TO LOOSE?
Ok, so I expect to win. I dream big dreams…now what? Where does my niche come from? When do I know when my season has arrived and the seeds I’d planted years before will begin to grow? My season will come when I least expect it and I truly believe it will come from my delivery of nothing less than results. I’m talking about leading real-life human beings and not numbers [I can manage the numbers, but I want to lead the people]. My results will be measured not by the busy work I assign; but by the spark I ignite into each person of our team.
I know, I know…that doesn’t really “mean” anything and you can’t really “measure” that. But I believe you can and it becomes simple. Our ease in managing numbers is a normal and natural process if the whole leadership journey has effectively been followed and a true north has been defined. Meaning there isn’t a need for additional bureaucracy or complicated matrices. If you don’t believe then try this: sometime over the next 7-days do the one thing that would be the last thing a total stranger would expect you to do for them, then wait for it. Wait for it..wait for it…now, you got it. What you just received was a result and a sense of accomplishment, which can also be converted quite easily into a profit. And I might add is not only a change but a niche.
As a leader I know this isn’t how we’ve been conditioned to believe; however I am going the distance! It is so much easier to quit and do things the same old way; only to say we’re going to be different…just not right now. But I ask, how far has that really gotten me and how far do I really want to go?
I will be the one who stretches their arms to the sky knowing there are no limits to the things I can accomplish when I see the absolute best in each person! I’ll find my niche will be as simple as doing a little research with people…because after all, it isn’t all about me!
