Activate your FAITH…Not your FEAR!

Wow, the weekend is behind me and I have remained focused and interested in my journey.  After finishing Chapter 6 Finding a Niche, I moved into Chapter 7 Good Leadership is Serving Others.  As I balanced my life over the weekend, making sure to share my time with my family and not working; I was able to find myself leading and serving others…and reflecting on my servant leadership in the office.

How can I more effectively lead in all directions?  The answer seems so simple to me that I must be missing something.  Or was it that I wasn’t missing a thing?  I remember a boss of mine yelling and screaming at a colleague and I during a meeting.  I mean really yelling and pounding on his desk telling us that “we” had caused him to act this way.  After he finished yelling at us, he demanded our respect…telling us we needed to speak and treat him as we treated his boss…because after all, he was our boss!

Can you believe that?  He was “demanding” our respect.  We were to serve HIM!  That’s when I got it, it really isn’t me and my views on leadership; it is all of those around us who are really insecure about their role who then “require” service.  As I look back a few chapters in the book I see an overall theme:  Heart and Compassion.  I must continue to remind myself, the people are what matters and if I place my absolute best foot forward the respect and servant leadership will shine as brightly as the new north star of leadership I am developing.

Grow, learn and share with those around you without fear of failure.  Plan knowing you too will succeed.
